Turn complex healthcare systems into scalable digital products

We partner with healthcare organizations to design compliant, patient-centered digital experiences that drive adoption and measurable outcomes.

HIPAA CompliantPatient-CenteredScalableMeasurable Outcomes

TL;DR

Problem:

A 500+ bed hospital network had fragmented patient experiences across 5 EHR systems, with only 23% digital portal adoption despite significant investment.

My Role:

Lead Product Designer — owned the full engagement from compliance audit and patient research to product roadmap, UX/UI design, prototype testing, and implementation support across 12 weeks.

Outcome:

Adoption jumped from 23% → 71%, patient satisfaction hit 4.8/5, support volume dropped 65%, and the organization saved $1.2M annually — measured via Mixpanel and UserTesting over the 12-week rollout.

THE CHALLENGE

Complex healthcare systems failing to deliver digital value

Healthcare organizations struggle to transform their complex systems into user-friendly digital products. Legacy technology, compliance requirements, and fragmented patient experiences lead to poor adoption and missed opportunities for better outcomes.

  • Fragmented patient experiences across touchpoints
  • Compliance complexity slowing innovation
  • Low digital adoption despite investment
  • Inability to measure outcomes effectively

CONTEXT

The Healthcare Digital Dilemma

Healthcare is one of the most challenging environments for digital transformation. Unlike consumer apps where you can iterate freely, healthcare products must navigate HIPAA compliance, clinical workflows, and the reality that poor UX can literally affect patient outcomes.

The Core Tension

"Patients wanted the convenience of consumer apps. The organization needed enterprise-grade security and compliance. We had to deliver both without compromise."

Understanding the Stakeholders

Healthcare digital products have uniquely complex stakeholder maps. I conducted interviews and shadowing sessions with five distinct user groups:

01

Patients

Diverse demographics from tech-savvy millennials to elderly patients who needed caregiver assistance. Accessibility was non-negotiable.

02

Nurses & Clinical Staff

Already overwhelmed with existing systems. Any new tool had to reduce their workload, not add to it.

03

Physicians

Time-constrained and skeptical of new technology. The interface had to respect their expertise while guiding workflow.

04

IT & Compliance Teams

Gatekeepers who needed audit trails, security controls, and integration with existing infrastructure.

05

Administrative Leadership

Focused on ROI, patient satisfaction scores, and competitive differentiation in the market.

The Integration Challenge

The hospital network operated 5 different EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems—a common problem in healthcare due to mergers and acquisitions. This meant patient data was scattered across systems that didn't communicate with each other.

REAL USER QUOTE

"I have to log into three different systems just to see my full medical history. Last time I visited, the doctor didn't even know about my allergy because it was in a different system."

THE SOLUTION

Strategic approach to digital transformation

We partnered with the healthcare organization to design a comprehensive digital strategy that prioritized compliance, patient experience, and measurable outcomes.

Product Strategy

Defined digital product roadmap aligned with business goals, compliance requirements, and patient-centered outcomes.

System Architecture

Designed scalable, HIPAA-compliant architecture that integrates with existing EHR systems and clinical workflows.

Patient Experience Design

Created intuitive, accessible interfaces that drive adoption across diverse patient populations.

Outcomes Measurement

Built analytics framework to track engagement metrics, clinical outcomes, and ROI for stakeholders.
